I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo. “So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

A few years ago, we started a post- Thanksgiving tradition of watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy over the long weekend. And every time I watch that first movie, I am struck by the quote above. I want to do more deciding what to do with the time that is given and less wishing away the things that are hard. So today, I am once again wiping the smudges from my lenses and choosing to be in the moment, deciding to do the best I can do for today.

And by the way, it took us an extra day to finish watch the trilogy this year because I kept falling asleep! It is still a wonderful tradition.
